James Blackstone Memorial Library invites artists to submit an application to exhibit their work in our Artist’s Circle Gallery. To apply please download and complete the PDF form below or fill out the online form available here. When applying please include an artist’s statement and 3-5 examples of the artist’s work. Submissions may be delivered in person at the library or emailed to the Associate Librarian for Access Services, Pasquale Festa (pfesta@blackstonelibrary.org). The library is especially interested in working with artists willing to combine their exhibition with a demonstration or discussion about their working methods and practice.
Exhibit Guidelines:
The Artist’s Circle Gallery is located in the 2nd floor rotunda of the James Blackstone Memorial Library. The gallery consists of thirteen 72″ tall wall segments that range in width from 53″ to 203″ each allowing for roughly 630 square feet of exhibition space. Additionally, the gallery includes a glass display case measuring 103”x26”x10” that may also be used for exhibiting. The Artist’s Circle Gallery uses a rail hanging system that works best with wire mounting hardware – sawtooth and French cleat style hangers will not work. Due to the historical nature of the building the use of screws, nails, tape, or anything that may harm the walls is not allowed. If you wish to include a work’s title we suggest affixing title cards to the work’s frame. Hanging the exhibit is the responsibility of the artist. Labels and signage for items on display in the glass case are the responsibility of the exhibitor. Exhibits will be installed on or after the first day of the month and removed by the last day unless other arrangements are made.
Publicity:
Publicity is the responsibility of the exhibitor and may include press releases to local media, flyers, and postcards. The library will display your flyers and postcards if you deliver them to us. James Blackstone Library may post information about the exhibit (including photos and artist statement) on our website, in our newsletter, and on our programming calendar.
Insurance:
The library’s insurance policy does not include works on exhibit; therefore the library cannot be responsible for loss or damage that may occur while your work is on loan to the library.
Sales:
Please do not post prices on or next to the art works. You may provide a price list to the library which will be held at the Reference Desk for potential buyers. We recommend that you provide business cards or contact information so that interested parties may be directed to you to negotiate purchases.
