The Blackstone Library is about to begin a renovation project to enclose the existing upper balcony space inside the auditorium. The result will be two beautiful new meeting rooms, plus a center vestibule. The rooms will adhere to historic preservation standards while offering a soundproof barrier so that meetings and library programs can happen at the same time!
Construction is slated to begin Tuesday, October 6, and will continue through the end of December. Most of the work will take place in the upper balcony area, but on some days there will be equipment and materials in the auditorium.
Our priority is to maximize our programming lineup while balancing safety and construction interruptions. We are scheduling most programs for evenings and weekends, and may need to cancel some daytime programs, including storytimes, to ensure safety and quality program delivery.
From time to time, we may need to make last minute changes to program schedules, and we apologize for any inconvenience when that happens. We will strive to give the earliest possible notice of any cancellation or postponement.
Providing more small conference spaces was an important community need identified as part of our strategic planning initiative. Please bear with us while we work towards bringing this to fruition.
